October 01, 2024
At the end of the month, Berlin shows itself from its scariest angle. As in most European cities, Halloween is not a traditional celebration in Berlin but has blown over from America. Each year the celebrations grow and more events are added to the calendar. With events and parties for all ages to enjoy we’ve made a selection of our favourite things to do in Berlin at Halloween.
Spooky Halloween events in Berlin for kids
In Berlin, Halloween is fun for all ages, with both special events and monthly events that are perfect for the occasion. SEA LIFE Berlin, for instance, has a fun monthly Flashlight Tour (in German), for those who want to discover what happens in the darkness of the sea. For this special tour, you will enter the aquarium after hours to see what happens underwater when the sun has gone down.
From 19 October to 3 November children’s amusement centre FEZ-Berlin becomes haunted. There are child-friendly but fear inducing experiences both inside and outside. Kids can built their own coffin or an oversized doll’s house, choreograph dance moves, take a tour through the catacombs in the cellar with abandoned dungeons, haunted shadows and dark rooms, and much more.
Tierpark Berlin, the zoo in East Berlin has several special theme days during the autumn school holidays. There are 2 Spooky Days on 22 and 31 October on which an experienced guide will take you through the zoo. Some of the animals’ spooky secrets will be revealed as you take a look behind the scenes at the zoo.
The Scary Home of Halloween for teens
Throughout October The Berlin Dungeon becomes the Home of Halloween in Berlin with a special extra show added to the attraction. On a regular day The Berlin Dungeon already is the scariest place in the city. Here you will go on a fascinating tour of the darkest parts of the city’s history, from torturers to witches and ghosts, they all call this place home.
This month there will be no escaping the chills running down your spine. Ignore the rules and go past the ‘No entry’ sign to step into the secret sector 13 of a questionable mental asylum. We’re sure all the practices and studies done here are completely above board. Just ask the doctors how they can help you, or are you too afraid?
Spine shivering concerts
On 26 October the Apostel-Paulus-Kirche in Schöneberg offers two concerts to celebrate the holidays. The evening starts at 18.30 with a spooky night full of Halloween classics performed by the Rhapsody String Quartet. They will give a rendition of songs such as Michael Jackson’s Thriller and a medley from Danny Elfman’s soundtrack of The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Later in the evening, soundtracks from the scariest horror films will be performed from 21.00. The 60-minute concert is the perfect way to celebrate the day without actually being frightened. You will hear the spine shivering tunes from movies such as The Exorcist, Psycho, Beetlejuice, Sleepy Hollow and many more.
Skeleton Halloween parties in Berlin
Every year, Berlin's Kulturbrauerei transforms into a horrifying Halloween paradise for two days, this year it will be on 25 and 26 October. Monsters, ghosts, and vampires roam the halls as DJs spin spooky tunes on multiple floors. With free professional makeup, themed dance floors, and a festive atmosphere, this is the ultimate Halloween party for those seeking a frightfully good time.
On the 31st itself, there are several more Halloween parties in Berlin. In the catacombs of the Abandoned Factory at Musikbrauerei there are 3 nights of parties, starting on 31. Club Cassiopeia also has several parties around the holiday, while the Maximm Club has a full week of celebrations planned.
